Research – Spalding Gray (Jan 31st)

In class we looked at the video of Spalding Grays, Swimming to Cambodia. This piece was very interesting for me ask it contained several intriguing lighting states, along with a wonderful use of tempo and rhythm in the text, I was focussed on lighting and sound for my own piece and this gave me some ideas.

Work Presented (24th Jan)

In this class we were set the task of presenting a story from our lives, it could be true or false depending on or preference. My story is true; I wanted to base it as if sat at a table with friends, possibly enjoying a drink. I want this atmosphere as I feel this story would be best understood in a relaxed environment. Please feel free to read and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Poor Dog

Hello, my name is Thomas. I am, as you probably have already guessed…Irish.

Now that we got the back story out of the way, I am going to tell you a story about myself, which you may or may not believe to be true. The choice is yours.

It begins almost exactly 2 years ago, and is set in the Courts Accommodation of The University, specifically in my bedroom one nice afternoon. A friend of mine, who shall remain nameless and I decided to “Broaden our minds” or smoke weed in laymen’s terms. And as we lit up and sat bloodshot eyed and giggling, we were bringing up various scenarios as to what could make the other laugh. We made up a few silly ideas, like trying to trick some1 by dropping a magic 8 ball under the bed and retrieving a strategically placed huge version to freak the other out. Then, as the high got stronger, I thought it would be funny to set a dog on fire, and put it in a bath of water, to see if the water bubbled……. I have issues…… please help me…

True or not?

The Beginning (24th Jan)

This blog is going to be used to demonstrate my creative journey to a finished solo performance piece. I have from the beginning been stuck on the idea of moods, emotions, and how water can be related these particular things through its range of properties. I hope to find inspiration from researching these things, and ultimately add aspects of my findings to my final piece.

In the mean time however I shall leave you in the hope that the next time I post, I shall have something more interesting to say. As Cliché as it may seem, Mario’s’ catchphrase is at the front of my mind…..

“Let’s A-Go!”

Welcome

Welcome to my blog! I am Thomas Quinn. I currently study Drama at the University of Lincoln. I am creating a solo performance that will be performed in May. Keep track of my progress through this endeavour, reading my posts and hopefully commenting on them.

This is an assessed entry and ultimately is going towards the complete ‘Solo Performance’ module grade. Please feel free to explore and enjoy the content of this blog.
